Manchester United have had some great strikers over the years, but only a few were more clinical than Dimitar Berbatov. The striker has always been an ardent fan of Manchester United since his retirement and has been vocal about United’s success and failures. In his recent talk with Manchester Evening News, Berbatov has thrown light on Manchester United’s issues in the centre-back spot.
United were one of the best defences in the Premier League last season, but the club still has issues with the centre-backs. Lindelof and Maguire don’t look to complement each other and looked fragile at the end of last season. The Red Devils have been linked to several centre-backs this summer but haven’t been close to signing one yet.
In his latest talk, Berbatov said: “I think they need a centre back for sure. That completes the squad in my opinion. I know they are looking to buy a forward, the first one being Jadon Sancho. It’s taking forever, I don’t know if the deal is going to happen.” Along with several other pundits, Berbatov has also emphasized on the fact that United need a centre-back to compete for the Premier League title.
With the Premier League set to begin later this week for United, the club will hope Lindelof and Maguire will be defensively solid next season.
