Manchester United FC have found it difficult to offload players this summer transfer window, even though there have been interests around them. Chris Smalling has been linked with AS Roma from the beginning of summer, even before he returned to United. But in his latest pre-match conference, Roma manager, Fonseca, revealed that he has been in contact with Smalling and is confident about his move to the Italian club.
Smalling was sent out on-loan for a season to AS Roma last summer, as Solskjaer didn’t see the centre-back in his plans. The former United captain has rejuvenated his career in the Italian Serie-A laying for AS Roma. He was one of the best defenders in the league last season and has also attracted a lot of interest from several clubs, Newcastle United one amongst them.
It was previously reported that Roma had stalled talks with United after their last bid for Smalling was rejected. But AS Roma manager has now come out and said: “I am in regular contact with Chris Smalling, I spoke to him yesterday. He wants to come back to Roma and we want to have him back. I think that there could be an update over the next few days.”
The sale of Smalling would be great for United as his transfer fee could serve as extra cash for new recruits.
