Manchester United’s dismal performance at Old Trafford last weekend has caused the club to re-think about its transfer plans this summer. Most of the fans believe that United need a centre-back this season who could complement the qualities of Maguire. In a recent interview, Berbatov has also stated the fact that United need to sign a faster centre-back this summer to get anywhere near winning silverware.
Against Crystal Palace last weekend, Victor Lindelof was at fault for all of Palace’s goals, which has caused massive panic amongst the fanbase. Berbatov in his interview said: “The goals they conceded at the weekend were poor defensive goals. If they don’t strengthen up, it will be a long season for them.”
He also added that “They need someone alongside Harry Maguire, look at how impressive he has been since he came in, and he is now captain. They need someone who is fast like Rio Ferdinand was for Nemanja Vidic.” Eric Bailly would make a perfect centre-back pairing for Maguire, but the Ivorian has been injured more often than not which has hindered his progress at United.
Even though many believe United are looking to sign a centre-back this summer, Manchester Evening News reports that it is not the case. The Red Devils are reportedly not looking at a centre-back this summer and have prioritized a move for a right-winger. With the Telles move ever so close, only time will tell if United sign a right-winger this season or not.
