Manchester Unites signed Edinson Cavani on the deadline day of the transfer window and have also given him the No.7 shirt. Cavani’s signing has divided the fanbase as many people think his signing was a masterstroke but others label him as a panic buy. In his recent interview with South China Morning Post, former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan has compared Edinson Cavani’s signing with that of Ibrahimovich’s.
Cavani hasn’t played a game for months now and his match fitness has been heavily questioned. The No.7 shirt will also put more pressure on the forward as his predecessors haven’t done well in front of goal. But Diego Forlan believes that his countryman and striker partner Edinson Cavani will excel at Manchester United like Zlatan Ibrahimovic did a couple of years ago.
In his interview, Forlan said: “Edinson is still a great player. I’ve not seen any decline in him yet. I think he’s a top signing for United, just like Zlatan was. He’s that type of player. He’s strong and his physique will be fine for English football. He’s quick, he’s highly motivated.”
Edinson Cavani is surely one of the fittest forwards of his generation and has a great work ethic. The Uruguayan has a proven goalscoring record in all his former clubs which will encourage Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Cavani is set to miss the game against Newcastle but he might be in the squad in the Champions League against PSG.
