Manchester United player ratings against Istanbul Basaksehir | UCL 2020-21

Manchester United’s great away for has finally come to an end as the Red Devils lost to Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey. The defeat came after a dismal performance from the players as they yet again failed to break down a low block. Some of the players were awful last night in Turkey, which was a shock to everyone, as it was expected of United to win easily.

Let us have a look at how Manchester United players performed in the defeat against Istanbul Basaksehir, in the Champions League.

DEAN HENDERSON – 6

Dean Henderson made his Champions League debut last night in Turkey and it would be one he would like to forget as it ended with a defeat. The Englishman could barely do anything about both the goals the Turkish club scored.

AARON WAN-BISSAKA – 5

Aaron Wan-Bissaka had another game he would rather forget soon, as he did very little going forward, in a game where he barely had to defend. The right-back needs to learn to cross the ball or else United will be toothless when he will be down the flanks.

AXEL TUANZEBE – 5

The youngster had an awkward game as he was booked early to stop Ba in his tracks. Tuanzebe was taken off at half-time which was probably a poor decision by Solskjaer.

HARRY MAGUIRE – 4

For one more time, the Manchester United captain disappointed, as he failed to organize his defence. The Englishman just seems incapable of commanding his line and should have dealt with the cross that led to the second goal.

LUKE SHAW – 7

Shaw was arguably one of the best players on the pitch for Manchester United as he was good defensively and going forward. He also registered an assist as he went down the flank and cut inside for produce a beautiful ball for Martial’s goal.

NEMANJA MATIC – 3

Matic was probably the worst player on the pitch in both the sides, as he struggled throughout the game. He was at fault for the first goal leaving Demba Ba alone at the halfway line.

DONNY VAN DE BEEK – 7

Van de Beek was like a breath of fresh air for the Red Devils and was their best player as he covered every blade of grass. It was a mistake on Solskjaer’s behalf on taking the Dutchman out which came back to haunt him.

JUAN MATA – 4

Juan Mata was caught out for the second goal as he lost possession in his own half. His age and legs have given up on him as he simply can’t keep up with the pace at the highest level of football, and he should have been taken off at halftime.

BRUNO FERNANDES – 5

Bruno Fernandes was wasteful with the ball throughout the game and looked disinterested. He gave the ball away 34 times in the game, the most by any player on the pitch.

MARCUS RASHFORD – 5

Marcus Rashford was almost invisible in the game as he could not find space to receive the ball or space to run onto. The winger looked deflated and was taken off for Cavani.

ANTHONY MARTIAL – 7

Anthony Martial scored the goal for the Red Devils and was the only one to drive the team forward. He completed a few dribbles and took one the opposition but no other United player was at his wavelength.

SUBSTITUTES

SCOTT MCTOMINAY – 6

McTominay’s substitution was very strange as he didn’t solve any of the problems United faced trailing. He was average in the second half and failed to create any chance for the Red Devils, as expected.

PAUL POGBA – 5

Paul Pogba was also mediocre in the 30 minutes as he tried to produce a few moments of magic but failed. His passing range was on show but it barely troubled the opposition.

EDINSON CAVANI – 4

Cavani could have been one of the best players on the pitch, had the midfielders found him. He made some quality runs but to his dismay, no one even spotted his runs.

MASON GREENWOOD – 4

Mason Greenwood hardly made any impact to the game as he joined the game late to save United from the blushes.

TIMOTHY FOSU-MENSAH – 6

Fosu-Mensah actually had a good game even though he played for 10 odd minutes. The Dutchman saved United from conceding a couple of more goals and looked sharp.
