Manchester United will be without Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani for their trip to Leipzig. Solksjaer has confirmed in the latest interview that both will miss the next week’s clash against the UCL opponents. He has also provided updates on other players of the crew.
Martial and Cavani both suffered minor muscle injuries during last week’s clash against West Ham United. Although United won the match, both the attackers were forced off and were substituted. The injury didn’t look nasty but still it was enough to keep them out of that contest in the second half of the match.
Solksjaer and the staff were quite positive after the match and Solksjaer did mention that they had been looking at the injuries and assessing the conditions. De Gea also suffered an injury in the previous match against Paris Saint-Germain, but he made through the wound and is available for selection for the match against Leipzig.
Luke Shaw also makes the cut and will play in the final encounter which will see both the teams locking horns to win and progress through the round of 16 of the Champions League. The defender coming back after a lengthy spell at the sidelines.
Solksjaer said: “David De Gea is travelling, Luke Shaw is travelling, Edinson and Anthony won’t be making the trip, minor niggles.”
Losing Cavani and Martial will be a major blow for the team because both the players have been included in most of the first-team lineup and Cavani has been in fine form for the Reds. Even after losing both the attackers, Solksjaer and the team will be looking to go for an all-out approach and be aggressive against their opponents. A draw is enough for them but a win will boost their morale.
Their absence will give an opportunity for other attacking players to make their mark and prove to Solksjaer that even they can be very handy for the team.
Time to fill the big shoes now.
