RB Leipzig vs Manchester United : Match Report | UCL 2020-21

Manchester United was unloaded out of the Champions League subsequent to losing 3-2 to RB Leipzig on a baffling night for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United together, who realized they just required a highlight qualify from Group H, fell 3-0 behind in Germany after a shambolic guarded appearing with on-credit Manchester City full-back Angelino (2), Amadou Haidara (13), and Justin Kluivert (69) putting the hosts solidly in charge.

Notwithstanding, a Bruno Fernandes punishment with 10 minutes remaining started United into life, and Paul Pogba, subject of some questionable remarks from his representative in the development, had a major impact to get United back to 3-2 as his header redirected off Harry Maguire and into the net.

It left United with eight minutes to discover an equalizer yet regardless of a few bristly minutes, Julian Nagelsmann’s side clutched send Solskjaer’s men into the Europa League. The draw for the last-32 of the Europa League will occur from early afternoon on Monday 14 December.

How everything unwounded for United…

United began with a back five as Luke Shaw was drafted in as the third-place half and with Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic securing the guard, it was expected United would be difficult to separate in their offer for a point.

Angelino, permitted to leave borrowed by Manchester City, got Nagelsmann’s men looking great so far by lashing home inside two minutes. Aaron Wan-Bissaka permitted him an excessive amount of room while United’s midfielders were too messy to even think about allowing the administration into their wandering wing-back.

Haidara added a second before long – but again it was totally preventable from a United perspective. Angelino cut a ball in from the left and by one way or another United were dwarfed at the back post with Shaw and Alex Telles totally out of sync with their cautious obligations. Haidara exploited the space, terminating home past a powerless David de Gea.

The ball was in the net minutes after the fact when Willi Orban turned home after Ibrahima Konate’s header returned off the post. Be that as it may, the video associate official managed Orban had wandered offside and United had a respite.

A difference in shape was utilized after the break as Donny van de Beek went ahead for Telles as United returned to four-man protection. It set off a reaction yet they didn’t work Peter Gulacsi until 65 minutes on the clock as Fernandes struck a low drive from a distance that required pawing endlessly.

The Portugual midfielder went much nearer minutes after the fact when seeing a plunging free-kick hit the bar from 20 yards as energy was developing inside the United positions. However, their air pocket was blasted a moment later and United was further behind. Maguire permitted Christopher Nkunku to bobble a cross into the peril zone and Kluivert responding snappier to cut the ball over De Gea, who didn’t cover himself in wonder.

Going 3-0 down kicked United into fifth stuff – and a potential rebound was started by Mason Greenwood winning a punishment after a Konate freight ship. Fernandes opened home the spot-kick and United quickly decreased the deficiency further, with Pogba jumping most elevated to meet a corner at the far post and moving endlessly a header that went in off Maguire and Konate.

‘Ole got it awfully off-base’

The tactics used by the manager were very poorly considering the fact that he used five defenders and played them on wings which left Maguire and other center-backs severely exposed. Nagelsmann used Angelino and Haidara to this advantage by keeping them higher up the pitch and letting them play as wingers which acted as a great threat for the United defenders. He switched the formation from 4-3-3 he used against Bayern to 3 defenders at the back and Angelino ahead of them. As you can see both Angelino and Haidara had their role in their win by being on the scoresheet as well as the assist page.

Hellish Defending:

United severely got their defending severely wrong. The goal of Kluveirt saw Maguire and De Gea in utter confusion. Even they got 2 goals behind in the first 13 minutes can speak volumes that they were not able to control the tempo from the first whistle itself. It was shambolic defending and even Orban had a goal only to be ruled as offside. So they getting two late consoling goals doesn’t help much cause they should have done that before.

Pogba and Van De Beek not playing changed the team tactics:

Raiola’s comments were harsh and that led to Solksjaer dropping the player and then substituting and making him play later where he scored a late goal. But can we say that this changed the tactics of the play, Yes it did! The lack of creativity can be seen as Van De Beek was also benched which led to Bruno being the sole distributor in the attack which paid heavily for United. Benching Van De Beek was not a wise choice considering he was in good form.

United heading into Europa League:

The loss takes the team to the Europa League which feels sad for the manager as they had won their two UCL opening games by defeating PSG and Leipzig but still lost two continuous matches at the end where they just needed a draw to qualify. Being in the Europa League will also be tougher for the team as other quality sides like Spurs will also be hunting for the trophy and they are in good form. Only time will tell whether they win anything or not.

Man of the match: Angelino

His impact on this match in the initial 20 minutes set the pace for Leipzig’s triumph. Wan-Bissaka chose to give him a large portion of a yard an excessive number of and he rebuffed him with the best of strikes to open the scoring. His forceful style kept on pushing United back and it was his pin-direct cross that drove toward the subsequent objective. Angelino has now taken part in six goals scored in six Champions League appearances this season (three scores, three bits of help). It’s stunning to think Pep Guardiola permitted him to leave borrowed, particularly with Benjamin Mendy’s conflicting nature and Oleksandr Zinchenko not a characteristic in that position. On this appearing, he’s Manchester City’s best assaulting left full-back.

What’s next for United:

A match against Manchester City will be a tough encounter at Old Trafford in the weekend time. They need to win this one to be in the top four of the table.
