Manchester United summer signing Edinson Cavani has received a three-match ban and fined £100,000 by the FA following the forward choosing not to contest the charge filed against him concerning a post made on his Instagram account.
According to reports from ESPN, the three-match ban handed out to the 34-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain striker means that Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be unable to call upon Cavani for New Year Day’s Premier League fixture at home against Aston Villa.
Moreover, Cavani is in line to be absent for the subsequent league clashes against Manchester City and Watford as well, which would come as a massive blow to the Red Devils frontline.
Cavani found himself in hot water after using a racially offensive term on his Instagram profile in the aftermath of his superb showing for Solskjaer’s side during their 3-2 win over Southampton in November.
The Uruguayan international, however, had justified his actions as being unaware of the ramifications surrounding his social media activity as the Old Trafford giants sought to defend their player in the face of wide fold criticism.
