Lille central defender Sven Botman has been on Liverpool’s transfer radar for quite some time now, with the Premier League holders wanting to sign additional reinforcements in the defensive department after season-ending layoffs for both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
However, recent reports from the Express claim that the Merseysiders’ desire to add Botman to their first-team ranks would be challenged by Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s Manchester United.
Victor Lindelof’s back injury has sidelined the Swedish international from appearing for the Old Trafford giants in recent games, and with the January transfer window having opened on the turn of the new year, Solskajer is presented with the perfect opportunity to fortify his side’s options in the heart of the backline, with United already being linked with a number of full-back options to provide some much-needed cover for Aaron Wan-Bisaaka.
Botman has been in brilliant form since the start of the new season in France and on the back of the former Ajax man’s consistent series of showings, Jurgen Klopp’s side are due to be rivalled by top-flight foes Manchester United in the race to sign the 20-year-old Holland international.
