Alex Fergusson may have retired from his managerial post at Manchester United long ago but you can still feel the rivalry in his veins as he made a sarcastic comment to Jurgen Klopp just before the important derby.
Alex Fergusson had joined Jurgen Klopp, Sir Kenny Dalglish, and England manager Gareth Southgate on a charity Zoom call on Friday evening.
The former Manchester United boss was full of praise for the work that Jurgen has done for Liverpool and also made it known that he is happy he doesn’t have to face the current Liverpool side.
It all seemed done and dusted and as Jurgen Klopp got up to leave the conversation he said, “Jurgen. Jurgen” and paused to wait for his reaction before uttering the line “Get a good sleep for Sunday,” with a gleam in his eye.
Of course, there wasn’t any malice in anyone’s heart but such friendly banter helps keep the sporting spirit of the game alive as the fans feel the passion running through their veins.
Unfortunately, the fans still cannot come out in huge numbers to witness their favourite teams play every week, and while Anfield is mostly known for its atmosphere where the Kopp is even referred to as the 12th Man things have changed drastically.
Manchester United come into the game with a 3-point lead and an 11-game unbeaten run in the Premier League whereas Liverpool, by contrast, has not been able to win a single game in their last 3 outings.
The clash at Anfield could be an important step in deciding where this title campaign could be headed.
