Manchester United chief Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes his players can deal with their approaching weighty schedule.
Manchester United head to Aston Villa on Sunday straight from fixing their spot in the Europa League final on Thursday, when they lost the second leg of their semi-final match 3-2 at Roma yet advanced 8-5 on an aggregate scoreline.
A blockbuster final against Villarreal anticipates in Poland yet the emphasis currently is on Villa as United proceeds with an extreme run of four matches in eight days, with home games against Leicester and Liverpool following closely after Sunday’s match.
Solksjaer wants his team to maintain consistency in the last few matches and make sure that they end the season with lots of positives. He expects the players to deliver against Aston Villa.
Solksjaer while speaking to the club’s official website, said: “Sunday at 2 pm is not the problem. That was always scheduled. Tuesday, Thursday after Thursday, Sunday, that’s a big problem. I trust my players to get a result (against Aston Villa). First of all, Sunday is a big game for us. Of course, Sunday is a massive game and we’re looking forward to it after the boost of getting into a final. This will hopefully give us energy and then let’s see what we do Tuesday and Thursday. We just have to take it day by day and hopefully, we can play those games.”
Solksjaer surely wants his team to perform consistently which will help them bear the challenges of this hectic schedule. Playing four games in eight days is simply too exhausting for the players. Solksjaer is expected to rotate his squad heavily which will make sure that his main players are well rested and not injured.
The Europa League final is on the cards and the manager surely won’t be risking his players for this tie.
