It is fair to say that Liverpool had a helpless season.
The Reds were top picks to win the Premier League again in 2020/21 yet that didn’t appear. Jurgen Klopp’s side had a good start to the season however bad injuries endured by Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip crashed their season.
Liverpool couldn’t win any trophy, in spite of the fact that they finished the season on as a high as they figured out how to fight and complete third in the Premier League in spite of the problems. Nonetheless, they didn’t complete higher than their fierce opponents, Manchester United.
The Red Devils had a fair season and completed in the second position in the League table with 74 points, five points clear of Liverpool. Rio Ferdinand has claimed that the season was fruitful for United and that they have now been better than Liverpool.
While talking to Goal, he said: “I think in the league we’ve got what we wanted, which was an improvement. I think Man United at the end of last season finished 30-odd points behind Liverpool. Liverpool is now behind us and they’ll have their excuses and reasons why but the cold facts are that we have gained that much ground on them that we’ve gone past them this season. That shows vast improvement and we’re second in the league. By no means are we the finished article but I think at the beginning of the season if you’d said you’d finish second in the league from where we were I think they’d have snapped your hand off.”
This fact holds the truth that Manchester United was certainly improved this season. Liverpool had their problems but couldn’t enter any major stages of a cup competition. Manchester United meanwhile entered the finals of the Europa League and was quite solid in the Premier League as well.
