Manchester United is arranging a new contract for French midfielder Paul Pogba in the midst of fears that he could leave on a free transfer next summer, ESPN reports.
The midfielder has been with the Red Devils for a very long time, however, there are fresh worries over his future with his contract lapsing in June 2022.
The 28-year-old’s contract was extended for one more year, however, the Red Devils don’t have another contract to increase his stay.
It is presently revealed that talks are arranged with the Frenchman after the European Championships as the club hopes to offer him another contract and tie him for a long term with the club.
There are reports that he may delay talks past the mid-year to bring interested clubs to the negotiating table. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus are keen on Pogba, yet none of them may manage the cost of him without offering major players in return.
The circumstance would totally change in January as the Frenchman would be allowed to arrange a pre-contract with another club. Manchester United end up in a tricky situation with Pogba, having neglected to make a leap forward in the contract talks.
Pogba’s representative Mina Raiola is consistently hard to deal with, and he could request an extreme increase in the player’s wages.
In the meantime, it has been accounted for that Pogba needs a big contract of £400,000 a week. United appears improbable to satisfy the needs. A new round of transfers is expected to be held after Euro 2020, and another failed contract talk could see him sold this late spring.
United are probably not going to recover the £89 million fees paid in 2016 and may need to accept a cut-price deal to avoid losing him for free next summer.
