Barnes: Sancho and Varane won’t fix United’s biggest problem

As reported by Mirror, Liverpool legend John Barnes has stated that the new signings, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho will not be able to fix the main problem of Manchester United. The problem that he is talking about here is consistency.

“The harmony, consistency, and balance are where Manchester United have faltered. They’ve played well against the big teams but they’ve been inconsistent and I think that will still be an issue for the next year because the pressure is not on the team, it’s always on the manager. Once you have a situation whereby the pressure’s on the manager, now and again the team won’t perform and people will then blame the manager. Unfortunately for Ole, that will still be the case. Player for player, they’ve got a great team. I’m not talking about harmony within the camp, although depending on what happens with Pogba and a few others may be the harmony won’t be there.”

Manchester United had shown inconsistency from the time Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down from his managerial duties. Since then Man United has failed to be a dominant force in the Premier League.

Under David Moyes, Louis Van Gaal, and Jose Mourinho, they have shown similar inconsistency and were not able to dominate weaker teams.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has done a great job in raising the team’s standards and has brought some quality in their gameplay. But the problem still persists and the main concern here is that United has lost more matches against the weaker teams and teams that are lingering at the bottom of the table.

Showing great results against bigger teams have been a plus point but still losing to weaker teams has actually caused us to lose more points.

Manchester City and Liverpool have dominated the Premier League over the past few seasons and one of the key factors behind their dominance is their ability to finish off easier games and getting points consistently.

Another key point that has been highlighted here is the harmony of the squad. Paul Pogba has been always in the news and his future is talked about in every single transfer window. Why does it happen every time?

This will not only create an imbalance but there will also be doubts among the players regarding the future of their own teammates. United should make sure that they take the right decision and sort the issues regarding Paul Pogba’s future at the club as soon as possible.

New signing Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane will bring the necessary quality to this current United squad. But if Manchester United wants to win trophies, then they have to show the perfect balance and consistency this season.
