Manchester United’s loss to Leicester City has not been taken well among fans and pundits. The old quote that says, ‘If you lose, lose with dignity. Neither we lost with dignity, nor we were able to put a worthy fight for a win.
Solskjaer was looking low on confidence at the post-match interview and an urgent need to change things was looking very much clear on their face.
As reported by the club’s official website, he said:
“You have to bounce back. You have to respond. We’ve had the international break to look at things. Everyone’s been away and maybe they came into this confident because they’ve done well on their international teams. But we need to sort this out.”
“We have five games until the next break and we’ve got to stick together. There’s no other way to do it. You cannot lose focus; you’ve got to trust yourself, trust your teammates and make sure that we’re ready on Wednesday night because that will be a difficult game as well.”
Solskjaer’s team looked out of ideas and Leicester was full of it. The first half was an energetic one as Manchester United started well and was rewarded for their efforts. Mason Greenwood scored a rocket and the fans in the King Power Stadium were left stunned.
But soon, Leicester had an answer and it was a gift that we served them. Tielemans scored a jaw-dropping curler that went straight past De Gea and into the top corner. But it is not how simple as it looks, as United centre-back Harry Maguire’s failure to pick up the pass quickly from De Gea led to the goal.
The second half brought more issues and Leicester ran riot. In the second-half alone, Manchester United conceded 16 shots on goal and eight shots on target. The numbers say it all as Leicester quickly went up after a close-range goal from Soyuncu.
Rashford scored from a good finish but then United again showed their weak point. Leicester was counter-attacking numerous times and United was slow and couldn’t track back quickly.
Leicester levelled up within just one minute through Jamie Vardy and even he was not marked by any of United’s defenders. Patson Daka then scored the final goal and that came through a set-piece which United failed to delt with.
So many mistakes in just a single game, Solskjaer may be trying to think different, but a small tactical change won’t make things easy for us. As we face Atalanta next in the UCL group stage match, the Italian outfit will be a tougher opponent for us.
We then face Liverpool and Tottenham in succession and the clock has already started ticking for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
