Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has revealed some shocking news regarding their preparations before the game against Manchester United.
The famous arch-rivals were able to defeat Man United by a 2-0 scoreline at Old Trafford. They dominated possession throughout the match and were miles better than the Reds.
However, it has now been revealed that Pep Guardiola trained his team in a very different way for the game against Man United. Due to United’s change in tactics, numerous times this season, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager optioned to train less and had no clue about how their opponents will play.
Kevin De Bruyne revealed this to Dutch podcast Mid Mid by saying:
“The day before a game we usually train tactically, based on how the opponent plays. “Before United, Pep said: ‘We don’t know how they are going to play. We shall see’. And we stopped training after 10 minutes or so. Often Pep knows how the opponent is going to play. This time he didn’t know, so he didn’t know what to do.”
“We have done what we always do, but he didn’t know beforehand if they would play with five at the back, with four, a diamond in the middle, or with three up front.”
This is actually looking less shocking and more embarrassing for Manchester United. If your opponent is clueless about the way you play, either you are a genius team or a very amateur team who are not confident with their plans.
Pep Guardiola masterminded the whole game and De Bruyne’s words suggest that it was a very casual outing for them against Manchester United.

United have been changing formations in the past few games and Solskjaer is still trying to experiment with his starting XI. The tactical approach of the team has also hit a major roadblock as the team doesn’t look much dynamic while playing on the pitch.
Due to all this, Manchester United is now getting seriously underestimated and it actually makes sense.
