Former Manchester United assistant manager Steve McClaren has claimed that the arrival of Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo has increased the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Both the star players have enjoyed huge success with their former clubs and their arrival put more strain on the manager to perform well.
Steve McClaren was Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant manager and together they won the treble in 1999. At Old Trafford, he has managed some top-class players like Ryan Giggs, Phil Neville, Peter Schmeichel, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer himself.

As reported by Daily Mail, he said:
“I remember walking into that dressing room and every one of them at Manchester United, Schmeichel all the way through to Giggs in that one to 11, even the likes of Phil Neville, Butt, Scholesy, those players on the fringes had won things so they knew how to win things.”
“He brought Ronaldo and Varane – Ronaldo especially – he knows how to win. What he’s got to do, he’s having from what I hear such an influence in that dressing room, he’s number one and they’re looking at him.”
Ronaldo has scored nine goals in 13 appearances for the club. He has also scored some crucial late goals against Villarreal and Atalanta. Meanwhile, Raphael Varane has been rock solid and in his presence, the team looks very stable in defense.
