Manchester United has been linked with a surprising move for Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele in the January transfer window and they might get a good deal.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Man United will be battling with Newcastle United for the signature of the 24-year-old. He has been given a new salary of £9.4 million to stay at the Nou Camp, but a move seems highly likely.
Although Dembele wants to stay in Barcelona, he has been offered much more money by other clubs. Manager Xavi Hernandez has allegedly stated his wish for Dembele to stay here in the negotiations. Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, and the Red Devils have all been circling for the youngster’s signature, with the newest reports saying he has opted to terminate his stint in Catalonia.
After leaving boyhood club Rennes, Dembele rose to stardom with Borussia Dortmund and was regarded as one of the world’s most promising prospects until he joined Barcelona for a sum of £135.5 million in August 2017.
Injuries, on the other hand, have limited the pacy winger’s improvement and game time since joining the La Liga giants. Dembele has never started more than 20 La Liga games in a single season throughout his four-and-a-half years with the Blaugrana, scoring 30 goals and giving 21 assists in 121 appearances.

When fit and available, he has continued to show flashes of his truly world-class potential, receiving praise from his former Barcelona teammate and seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi.
As reported by Sport, In an interview in December 2018, Messi said:
“On the pitch, he’s a phenomenon. It’s up to him where he ends up, he could be one of the best. He’s young, and he is adapting.”
As a result, if interim manager Ralf Rangnick can capture the £287,000-per-week ace in a cut-price deal in January or on a free transfer next summer, he might be a great bargain.
With Edinson Cavani’s contract expiring at the end of the current season, the 20-time English champions will require attacking reinforcements, and Dembele might be the right man for the job.
