As reported by The Mirror, Paul Pogba’s brother, Mathias Pogba has lashed out at the club for offering “false promises” in order to persuade him to sign for the club. He also revealed that he was the reason behind the midfielder’s return to Manchester United.
The French midfielder is expected to leave the club after expressing disappointment with his role at the club. His contract is set to expire in the upcoming months, and there have been no talks for a renewal.
Several clubs have been linked with the 29-year-old, including Juventus and PSG, with a transfer to La Liga also being considered due to interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Since his return to Manchester United in 2016, Pogba has been criticized from all sides, but Mathias has revealed that the club may have to take some of the blame for the deal because they failed to deliver on their promises.
While talking to So Foot, he said:
“Not only did I push him a little: it’s thanks to me that he signed there! I convinced him, 100%. And look at the player he has become. In Manchester, he was given false promises.”
In just over six years, the Frenchman has made 229 appearances in all competitions, scoring 39 goals and adding 51 assists. But the major regret is the trophy cabinet, as Pogba has recently admitted that he regrets not winning any major trophy in the past five years.
Pogba had immense capability as he had shown his talent to the world during his time at Juventus. He won a lot of Scudettos in Italy but his transfer to Manchester United has completed turned his career upside down.
There are a lot of factors to be blamed for such as changing managers, inconsistent performances, high-profile media drama, and his super-agent Mino Raiola’s constant attempt to lure other clubs.
Despite the fact that Pogba has only played 16 times for United this season, the club will undoubtedly need to replace the former Juventus star in the summer. In the upcoming transfer window, the board will be looking to sign a defensive midfielder and a striker.
West Ham star Declan Rice and Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic have recently been connected with a move to Old Trafford, though it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils are willing to pay over £100 million for these players.
