Ralf Rangnick has revealed that Manchester United could add up to ten new players this summer, as part of the club’s major rebuild plan.
After a dismal Premier League season, United is set to make substantial changes this summer, with Rangnick describing the Red Devils’ 4-0 defeat at Liverpool as “embarrassing”. He also talked about the difference in class between the club and the division’s elite sides.
Erik ten Hag is expected to be named the club’s next permanent manager before the start of the new season. But the Dutchman will be without Champions League football in his attempt to recruit players to Old Trafford.
United is currently in sixth place, three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, despite having played one game more than the North Londoners.
Rangnick will take on a consultative role at the club next season after serving as temporary manager. He claims that the club is planning a massive rebuild, which might involve up to ten new players.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Ralf Rangnick said:
“If you analyze the situation, it’s not that difficult to analyze. The team needs a rebuild, not because some players have to go but quite a few have no contracts anymore, their contracts are expiring, then for me it’s clear there will be six, seven, eight, maybe 10 new players.
“And before you sign those players you need to be aware of how do you want to play? What kind of football does the new manager want to play? And then take it from there and then bring every single player fitting into that kind of profile.”
A major rebuild will certainly take two or three big transfer windows. As things stand, Erik Ten Hag will be receiving a substantial amount of money to sign new players this summer.
Also, Rangnick had revealed that he has provided a list of targets to the United board including players who could be an ideal match for the club. But to lure these players to Old Trafford, the board needs to act from day one and will need to strategize the transfers really well.
Also, many of United’s first-team players are expected to leave the club as their contract ends. Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, and many others will certainly leave the club in the coming months.
That leads to a lot of vacant space in the squad with a huge amount of wages being saved.
