Manchester United has begun talks to sign Ajax star Jurrien Timber

According to the Times, Manchester United has begun talks with Ajax about a contract for Jurrien Timber, who would be the club’s first summer signing.

After overseeing Timber’s breakthrough at Ajax, Erik ten Hag is keen to bring the 20-year-old to the Premier League, and the Red Devils have begun talks about a possible deal.

Timber shined during Ajax’s title triumph last season and has continued to do so since graduating from the club’s illustrious academy, with the Dutch champions expected to demand a fee of around £43 million for the centre-back.

However, after a meteoric climb to the Netherlands national team, the Dutchman has emerged as the club’s top priority.

Ajax is desperate to sign Timber to a new contract, but they are ready to accept a hefty offer for a player whose current contract expires in two years.

The recruitment of a centre-back has emerged as a priority for United this summer, and Ten Hag is said to be a fan of Pau Torres of Villarreal and Lisandro Martinez of Ajax.

Torres has also been linked with Chelsea and Tottenham, and his contract with the Spanish club is thought to include a £55 million release clause.

Jurrien Timber could be a crucial player for Ten Hag as they have increased their pace in the transfer window. The player is known to be very versatile with his positioning and can be used as a centre-back and even a full-back.
