Manchester United are reportedly mulling over making one last push for signing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona in this summer’s transfer window.
The Dutch midfield maestro is the top name on the shopping list of the incoming Man United head coach Eric ten Hag who is keen on a reunion with his former Ajax mainstay at Old Trafford.
According to a report from Catalan news outlet Sport (via Goal), it is claimed that the Red Devils will soon be meeting with the Barcelona camp to make much-needed progress in talks to bring in De Jong before the next season kicks off in England.
Ten Hag is said to have made personal contact with the Barcelona player and convinced him to make the move to the Premier League with De Jong viewed as key to the new manager’s plans of reinforcing the midfield ranks.
United’s interest in the Holland international is being matched by local rivals Chelsea who, in recent days, have emerged as strong contenders to land the 23-year-old midfielder with the lure of Champions League football.
