Cristiano Ronaldo finds himself on the bench in Manchester United’s Premier League opener against Brighton at Old Trafford with Eric ten Hag’s side eyeing the three points.
New signings Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen are given their debut league outings in the United shirt while Anthony Martial misses out with an injury.
Martinez gets nod over Varane to make the XI
Raphael Varane has to be content with a place on the bench with the French centre-back pipped to the starting berth on the team sheet by new signing Lisandro Martinez.
Harry Maguire is the other centre-back in the XI while Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw slot in the full-back roles on either side of the pitch.
Sancho and Rashford to shoulder the attacking responsibility
With Cristiano Ronaldo missing from the starting XI today, it is the England internationals Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford who will be tasked with delivering for their side in the final third of the pitch.
Eriksen will provide company to the duo with the Danish playmaker, upon his return to the Premier League, hoping to put out a solid display.
