New Manchester United captain, Harry Maguire, has promised that his team will fight for the badge as the United players prepare themselves for an intense season ahead.
For United fans, last season was a complete failure as their team finished in sixth place.
Their disastrous showings in the cups and European competitions did them no favours either. Ten Hag has the responsibility of restoring the club’s glory, which has been lost for a long time.
The Dutchman declared at the beginning of the preseason that Maguire would continue to serve as the team’s captain. Given that the center-back had a forgettable season in the previous campaign, this announcement did raise some questions.
Due to his slowness, the 29-year-old was too easily exposed. His ability to lead was also questioned as United struggled to maintain any consistency throughout the season.
The England international promised that his team would fight and please their supporters.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Maguire said:
“I think fight and, first and foremost, hard work. Running and fighting for the badge to give the fans excitement and also a team to be proud of.”
The least that fans can hope for the players wearing the red shirt is a battle for the badge.
The team has received a lot of criticism in recent months for failing to demonstrate sufficient enthusiasm to perform at Old Trafford. Maguire, however, thinks that Ten Hag’s new-look team will succeed.
The Dutch player had a respectable preseason, dropping just one match to Atletico Madrid. The players’ continued acceptance of his style of play is the one remaining unanswered question.
