Benjamin Sesko’s move to RB Leipzig highlights United’s transfer failure

Manchester United have lost yet another key transfer target as Benjamin Sesko has signed a five-year deal with RB Leipzig

In their quest to strengthen their front line, the Red Devils had made the RB Salzburg striker their top priority in the last few weeks. Cristiano Ronaldo is looking to leave the club in order to compete in the Champions League, therefore his future at Old Trafford is still in doubt.

Martial would then be the solely established striker in Erik ten Hag’s first Premier League season but he is injured and would miss the upcoming fixtures.

This led to the club, looking for other options and Sesko was seen as a strong, young player who could lead the line for years. However, after making an approach for the 19-year-old, the striker and his agent have decided to move to Germany to join the sister club, RB Leipzig. According to Fabrizio Romano, Sesko will remain with Salzburg for a year before moving to Germany in 2023.

This move demonstrates United’s failure in sealing their moves as the fans would witness another below-par transfer window. One of the reasons they are so far behind their bitter rivals Manchester City and Liverpool is because of their lack of planning in this competitive transfer market.

The fans would have expected the club to provide support to the new manager, Erik ten Hag. However, it looks as if they are heading towards the same path again. Ralf Rangnick had complained about a similar issue, as the club failed to sign a striker in January.

However, as things stand, Man United might be forced to step up their efforts to sign PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo.
