In spite of the uncertainty surrounding Harry Maguire’s position in Erik ten Hag’s starting XI, Manchester United is not interested in seeing him depart this transfer window, according to The Express.
It was earlier reported that Chelsea are interested in signing him, but those claims were rebuked by Fabrizio Romano. The transfer guru made it clear that there have been no negotiations between Chelsea and Manchester United.
Harry Maguire was benched against Liverpool as the Red Devils performed admirably well in his absence. Erik ten Hag put his faith in the pair of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane. Both the defenders marked a great impression and could be on their way to becoming a regular pair at the back.
Maguire’s absence started forming speculations that the skipper is looking to move away and his future at United would be hampered. The English defender had already suffered a lot of criticism due to his below-par performances last season.
No negotiations ongoing between Manchester United and Chelsea for Harry Maguire. He's expected to stay at Man United and fight for his place, no different plans on clubs side too. 🔴 #MUFC

In the 2021/22 season, the Red Devils finished sixth in the Premier League and gave up a record number of goals. United’s final point total was their lowest in the Premier League era.
Fans blamed our captain for the team’s weaknesses by pointing out his mistakes. Maguire hasn’t been able to lead the team by example, according to the fans.
Erik ten Hag had a bad start to the new campaign. Once more, the defence came under scrutiny. The 2022–23 season’s first two games were started by the England international alongside Lisandro Martinez.
United’s defence against Brighton & Hove Albion was breached a few times. In the first half, the Seagulls scored twice against us. The performance against Bretford was also subpar. In the first 35 minutes of the first half, the Bees scored four goals past David de Gea.
Ten Hag then benched Maguire for the match against Liverpool and started with Raphael Varane and Martinez. Fans were thrilled by the pair’s performance since they were strong at the back. The game ended with a 2-1 victory for us, giving us our first points.
It will be interesting to watch if our skipper continues to sit out the following games. Maguire has struggled with confidence for some time. The rest of the game will be interesting to watch to see how he responds on the field.
