Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has responded to rumours linking Martin Dubravka to a move to Old Trafford. Although the transfer looks close, the manager admitted that he doesn’t want his player to leave.
However, the situation is out of his hands as both clubs are in talks regarding a loan move. The 33-year-old was a regular player for the Magpies until the arrival of Nick Pope in June. The English goalkeeper has been the top choice for Howe and Dubravka will be frustrated for being on the bench.
As things stand, Manchester United are looking for competition in front of the nets since they have no decent backup choice for De Gea. The Slovakia international has spent four years at Newcastle and his contract runs until 2025.
But, United could be able to offer a loan deal to sign him for this season. The talks are ongoing between both clubs and they are close to reaching an agreement. A €5million purchase option would be included in the deal.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has revealed that both clubs are locked in talks. He said:
“There has been contact between the clubs but that will be something that will continue to happen, as in the discussions, but in terms of a final outcome, I’m very reluctant to lose any important players. So, it’s a decision that is out of my hands really. “
Manchester United have a higher chance of signing Dubravka as the goalkeeper is ready for a new challenge. Currently, the Red Devils are locked in negotiations with Ajax to sign Antony and the board would be looking forward to getting the deal over the line.
Signing a backup goalkeeper is a necessity for the club. Tom Heaton is the lone option on the bench and it will be preferable to sign a good backup as the club will play a lot of games in the upcoming months.
