As per the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are set to trigger a one year contract extension for five players.
Luke Shaw, David de Gea, Marcus Rashford, Fred and Diogo Dalot will be receiving a new offer by the club as their contracts will expire next summer. Ten Hag will be eager to meet on common grounds with these players and plan a pre-agreement contract in January.
These players will retain a resale value if a new contract is not agreed upon. The board have not started the discussions with any of the player’s entourage.
Marcus Rashford is one of the player’s on the list and his fine form will attract potential suitors. With three goals in four games, the English striker is looking a threat upfront and clubs like PSG have been interested in his services.
His brother-agent, Dwaine Maynard had a conversation with the French giants in the summer and the timing of this talks were questioned as United were reluctant to sell the 24-year-old.
Diogo Dalot has been one of the star performers under Ten Hag and his improvement in the past couple of months will be a driving factor behind the club’s decision to hand him a new contract.
Similarly, De Gea and Fred could face the same fate if their contract demands are not met. The Spanish goalkeeper is the club’s second highest earner and an extension will guarantee his spot in the starting XI.
With Dean Henderson sent on loan and Martin Dubravka being signed only for a year, United would look forward to convince the goalkeeper to sign an extension.
The final player on the list is the out-of-form left-back, Luke Shaw. The 27-year-old has been pushed further down the pecking order by the arrival of Tyrell Malacia. Although his injury issues still persists, the club will option to include him for a year in order to have some much needed squad depth.
