The Athletic reported that Manchester United has inquired about the chances of signing Antoine Griezmann during the summer transfer window.
The Frenchman, who joined the team in 2021 on a two-year loan, is currently playing for Atletico Madrid. However, a dispute over a particular condition in his contract at the Civitas Metropolitano has caused Atletico Madrid and Barcelona to enter into a legal dispute.
If Griezmann appears in more than half the available games, the Blaugrana may sell the attacker for €40 million at the end of the current campaign under the special clause. Atletico Madrid chose to use him exclusively after 30 minutes in games this season because matches only count if the player plays for more than 45 minutes.
Griezmann has grown frustrated as a result, and there are rumours that the attacker may try to leave Atletico Madrid after the new year.
In the summer, United was one of the teams interested in his services. At the time, the Premier League’s powerhouses contacted Griezmann in an effort to replace Cristiano Ronaldo with a trustworthy forward.
The 31-year-old did not consider any offers at the time since he was focused on staying with Atletico.
They chose not to sign anyone else while Ronaldo was still playing at Old Trafford. But given that Griezmann is having trouble at Atletico Madrid, it won’t be shocking to learn that Manchester United is interested in signing the Frenchman.
And even though he did start his first game of the year on Sunday night, an exit in January cannot be ruled out if the scenario involving his playing time does not improve.
