According to The Sun, Manchester United has gotten in touch with Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos’ agents in preparation for a possible January move.
The Red Devils still need to add another centre-forward in order to provide much-needed competition to its already present strikers.
In this position, Erik ten Hag can pick players like Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Cristiano Ronaldo. However, including a new player would be preferable considering the fact that Ronaldo may leave the club this summer.
Even Anthony Martial has experienced a few injury-related concerns. Hence, a more natural centre-forward may be beneficial because Martial and Rashford have both played on the wings.
Benfica’s sale of Darwin Nunez to Liverpool prompted the 21-year-old to move up this season. Ramos scored eight goals in 46 games last season but in just 12 games this year.
He has benefited from playing as the team’s regular striker since Nunez’s departure as he frequently played just off him when the Uruguayan international was still a part of the team. The young attacker’s contract with Benfica will last until 2026 which means that the Portuguese club will have the opportunity to get their desired fee.
Along with Manchester United, Bayern Munich is also closely monitoring Ramos’ progress. It will be intriguing to watch which club moves ahead in the race to sign the 21-year-old striker.
