According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Manchester United and Manchester City will compete for the services of Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni.
The 23-year-old, who originally arrived at San Siro in 2017, has developed into a crucial player in the Nerazzurri’s defence over several seasons.
As Inter won the Scudetto in 2020–21, Bastoni made 33 Serie A games under Antonio Conte. He also made 31 league appearances the previous season, contributing with one goal and three assists.
The future of the Italian international was heavily rumoured to be with Tottenham Hotspur, where he was expected to rejoin former Inter manager Antonio Conte. Prior to the 2022–23 season, Tullio Tinti, the agent for Bastoni, ruled out any exit for his client.
However, if he does not agree to new terms, the 6 foot 3-inch center-back’s current contract expires in 2024, which might put pressure on Inter to sell him by the end of the year.
In 2023, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Tottenham are all gearing up to put Inter to the test. Despite the fact that Bastoni’s current contract expires in less than two years, the report says that any interested club would need to fork out £50 million for him.
Manchester City and United both added centre-backs to their rosters during the summer transfer window, with the Red Devils beating out Arsenal to sign Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez.
Meanwhile, City acquired Borussia Dortmund star Manuel Akanji, and the Swiss international has already made three starts for the Premier League champions.
