Denzel Dumfries flattered by interests from United and Chelsea

Inter right-back Denzel Dumfries has acknowledged that he has been flattered by the interest shown in him from teams like Chelsea and Manchester United, but he is still committed to the Nerazzurri.

The Dutch star joined Inter only last summer from PSV Eindhoven, but he made an impact in his first year at the San Siro, contributing to five goals and four assists for Simone Inzaghi’s team.

This standout campaign generated interest from Chelsea and United, who were both looking to bolster their right-back or wing-back positions.

Chelsea spent a record-breaking £273 million on players during the summer transfer window, but in the end, they were unable to get a new right wingback. Instead, they added defenders Wesley Fofana, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Marc Cucurella.

Similarly, despite being given the chance to sign Sergino Dest from Barcelona, United made no reinforcements at right-back. However, since they were unable to move Aaron Wan-Bissaka, focusing on other positions became more important.

But both the club could now try to pursue a deal for the 26-year-old who will be open to a move. Dumfries was impressed by the huge interest shown in him by sich top clubs. As reported by the Telegraaf, he said:

“The interest flatters me, of course. But my focus is only on Inter. We want to win the Scudetto because we lost it last season.”

Dumfries has had a strong start to the season with two goals and an assist. He has a contract with the San Siro through 2026, although Inter is rumoured to be willing to sell given their financial situation.

The Dutch star could be a vital player for United if they can pull the strings next summer. It would not be a cheap deal since the Italian outfit are in a stronger position to demand a higher transfer fee.

Adding the 26-year-old will help Ten Hag to provide much-needed competition for Diogo Dalot and also help him to add some flexibility to his line-up.
