The Red Devils have reportedly made a second approach to sign Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic this summer transfer window after an initial bid of £31 million.
There is an air of uncertainty revolving around Manchester United’s midfield department as French World Cup winner Paul Pogba is tipped to leave the club. Ander Herrera has already joined Paris Saint Germain and the problems in the center of the park are only getting started for United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Therefore, the Norwegian manager is looking to bolster his squad and add a few players who could help United compete for major honors in the near future. Solskjaer is a big fan of Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic and is eager to land the Croatian midfielder to the Camp Nou in the summer because of his midfield situation.
Barcelona is reportedly valuing the 31-year-old midfielder at £45 million and will not let Rakitic leave for anything less than that amount.
Rakitic arrived at the Camp Nou back in 2014 and has become a big part of the team that won the Champions League and four La Liga titles. The Croatian is under contract with the Catalonian side until 2021 but his playing time at Barcelona will be reduced drastically following the arrivals of Frenkie De Jong from Ajax.
Manchester United had initially made a bid of £31 million earlier last week to sign the Barcelona midfielder but are now in the process of preparing an improved offer for the former Sevilla star to try and lure him to England.
