According to the Daily Express, Manchester United will meet with Alejandro Garnacho’s representatives in the next few days in an effort to tie the young attacker to a long-term contract.
The 18-year-old has already made three appearances for Erik ten Hag’s side in 2022–2023, with two of those coming in the Europa League. He is a part of Old Trafford’s first team this season.
In the latter stages of the previous season, the attacker made two Premier League games, making his league debut against Chelsea before taking part in his team’s final game of the year at Crystal Palace.
With up to 20 clubs rumoured to have made proposals to sign the Argentina Under-20 international, there were rumours throughout the summer that he might go on loan. However, Ten Hag decided to retain the player.
Garnacho was selected as the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year for 2021–22 as a result of his outstanding performance at the youth level. As the club looks to sign the youngster to a long-term contract, United will hold contract talks with the youngster’s team in the next few days.
The present contract for Garnacho is set to expire in June 2025, but the Red Devils are reportedly eager to extend it because of his outstanding growth at Old Trafford.
According to the source, an unnamed Spanish club is keeping a careful eye on the South American’s current status and United are aware of the rising interest in him. Garnacho was on the bench against Omonia in the Europa League on Thursday night despite missing his team’s last two Premier League games.
Last season, the young player shone at the Under-18 and Under-23 levels, scoring four goals and dishing out one assist in Premier League 2 while also scoring two goals in injury time to help the Red Devils win the FA Youth Cup.
