The Glazer family has slapped an enormous price tag on its club, Manchester United amid takeover interest.
The Manchester Evening News, reports that the American owners will only contemplate a sale if they receive a bid that is greater than $10 billion. The asking price is quite outrageous and will put out most of the potential suitors.
The most valuable sports team at the moment is the Dallas Cowboys, who are valued at $8 billion (£7.23 billion). The New England Patriots, who are worth $6.4 billion (£5.4 billion), come next.
Manchester United will overtake the New York Knicks as the most valuable sports franchise in the world if any suitor is ready to splash such a huge sum of money. The Glazers have now devised another big trump card to keep control of the Red Devils. The owners do not want to sell the club, according to recent information from England’s richest man, Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
The American owners took over United in 2005 and have owned it ever since. The club’s debt has grown over the years since their hostile takeover, but the American owners have continued to withdraw significant annual profits for themselves even if the club is suffering from huge debts.
They have hardly made any investments in enhancing the training facilities or supporting the fans. At the same time, fans’ discontent has grown as a result of the team’s inability to win any titles. The fractured relationship between the owners and the fans has progressed to the point where the fans have regularly held protests against the Glazers.
The sum of £9 billion is astounding. If this is the case, the club won’t be able to find any potential suitor anytime soon.
