As Manchester United search for a quality striker in January, Erik ten Hag might aim to sign ‘cheaper alternative’ Moussa Dembele, according to The Sun.
After a few impressive performances, the Dutch manager might fairly believe that he has revitalised Manchester United. However, the club’s board will need to provide strong backing for the Dutch manager’s long-term goal, including assistance in bringing in the proper players.
Given the problems with Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United urgently needs a new striker to bolster the attacking unit. The Portuguese international caused a commotion by leaving the match against Tottenham. He was left off the team for the match against Chelsea, casting doubt on his future at United.
Chelsea has once more been linked to the striker, but Graham Potter has preferred to sign Rafael Leao over Ronaldo. Hence, the 37-year-old could depart in one way or another, which might lead the team to hunt for a replacement.
Lyon striker Moussa Dembele has been a potential choice for ten Hag. The 26-year-old has struggled in recent years, and he is currently in the final year of his contract with the Ligue 1 powerhouse.
The French giants might agree to a discounted fee in January. If not, they will lose the French striker in the summer on a free transfer. Dembele reportedly had plans to join a major club outside of the Premier League and turned down numerous offers from the league.
The 26-year-old French striker would make a significant improvement at Manchester United. Dembele will try to resurrect his career at Old Trafford after failing to cut it at Atletico Madrid. This season, he has only scored twice in nine games, which is not very impressive.
It remains to be seen whether the club prefers to negotiate a deal with Lyon for the star striker.
