According to the latest information from Brazilian national team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar, Manchester United winger Antony might not play again before the World Cup.
The club’s star £100 summer signing has missed the last three games in all competitions due to a hip injury, and it appears that he will continue to miss games.
Lasmar told Goal that Antony’s injury is only a minor one, but he hasn’t yet joined the Red Devils’ first team for practice. The present week is crucial for the Brazilian star’s rehabilitation as he braces himself for the World Cup.
He said:
“Antony had a small problem in the flexor muscles of the right hip, he is in the recovery process. We have time for him to recover in time to be with us. This week is important, we are talking day by day. He hasn’t started training with the group yet, he’s in physical therapy.”
The 22-year-old has been a successful signing for United, and he has scored three goals in 11 games for the Old Trafford side. When fit, he has been a regular player under Ten Hag, and the team’s gameplay was affected by his absence on the right wing.
Erik ten Hag would want him back as soon as possible, but he would prefer to give him adequate rest so that he can play for Brazil this month.
After receiving his first World Cup call-up yesterday, Antony was seen hugging his family and being in tears. Hence, it would be crucial for him to recover well before the World Cup. As a result, he is set to miss the game against Fulham before the World Cup break.
On November 24, Brazil will face Serbia to open its campaign in Qatar. Antony needs two weeks to heal completely as the squad deadline is still two weeks away.
