Manchester United owner Avram Glazers has broken his silence on the club’s recent sale update. The American businessman is ready to explore strategic alternatives with the aim to sell the club.
The glazers took over the reins at Old Trafford in 2005 and since then, they have been widely criticized for the club’s failure both on and off the field. Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, United have failed to be a major force in the world of football.
They have been unable to lift a trophy for the past five years and it was high time that the club should decide about his future. The glazers decided to help the club grow by selling it to any potential buyer who is willing to meet their asking price. Currently, it is stated that the American tycoons will demand a fee in excess of £5 billion.
Avram Glazer was tracked down by SkySports near his Floride home. He was asked about the club’s sudden plan to sell the club and why it this the right time to help the club grow. As reported by SkyNews, he said:
“As we announced yesterday, the board went through a process and decided it’s going to look at different strategic alternatives – and that’s what we’re doing.”
“Well, once again, we’ve gone through a process, we’re going to look at all different strategic alternatives and we’ll see where that leads us, so I appreciate you talking to me tonight and I want to wish everyone a happy thanksgiving.”
Several top investors are exploring the possibility of buying the club. Saudi Arabia and Dubai investing funds have already planned for a takeover, whereas, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been largely linked with the ownership role at Old Trafford.
Although many new names are going to be linked, it remains to be seen whether any interested party is willing to splash such a huge sum to buy United.
Raine group will be given the responsibility to accept a bid and they are reportedly looking forward to demanding an eye-watering sum of money.
