Cody Gakpo asked about January transfer amid United links

Dutch striker Cody Gakpo has given his response on the potential move to Premier League amid Manchester United links.

The 23-year-old has been phenomenal for his national side in the ongoing World Cup campaign. The young attacker scored two goals in his last two games against Senegal and Ecuador.

Gakpo has already scored 13 goals and 17 assists in 24 appearances for PSV Eindhoven. He was widely linked with a transfer to Old Trafford but the move failed to materialize as the Dutch outfit rejected a £25 million bid.

Erik ten Hag opted to sign Ajax winger Antony for a record fee. However, the board have been running behind his signature for a long time and Gakpo’s World Cup form will bring in more attention from the European elites.

Gakpo was asked about a possible transfer to Premier League as clubs like United and Arsenal are closely monitoring his situation. As reported by the Athletic, he said:

“Right now I’m busy with the Dutch team. I’ll see what happens in the winter. In football, anything is possible. I’m focused now on the World Cup. It’s always nice to hear but I just focus here and do my best. I don’t get shy about the rumours.”

Gakpo’s current form will lure other top clubs and United will be aware of this situation. United have a lack of options upfront after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. Anthony Martial’s injury continues to create issues and Marcus Rashford is the lone attacking option on the team.

Ten Hag has to convince the board to sign the striker in the January transfer window rather than delaying the move. Arsenal are also keeping an eye on the attacker as they aim to solidify their spot at the top of the table.
