Canadian striker Jonathan David has admitted that playing in the Premier League would be a dream in response to rumours linking him to Manchester United and Chelsea.
David has been scoring 41 goals in the past three seasons for French team Lille, and this has piqued the curiosity of English powerhouses Manchester United and Chelsea.
After releasing Cristiano Ronaldo last month, the Red Devils will want to improve Erik ten Hag’s attacking options in January, and even Chelsea manager Graham Potter may anticipate having new signings during his summer transfer window.
Despite playing a significant role for Canada at the World Cup, the Maple Leafs lost three games, placing them last in Group F. David was questioned about the rumours surrounding his future and the Premier League while he was in Qatar. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, he said:
“I am aware of nothing. When I am at the World Cup I am just focused on trying to enjoy the World Cup and enjoying the moment. What happens after I do not know, we will have to see. The Premier League is the best league in the world and I think every player would want to play there someday.”
Belgium and Canada were unable to advance past the group round of the World Cup as Croatia came in second and Morocco took first place in the group.
Despite the young forward had a disappointing World Cup, Lille will need a sizable offer to part ways with their star striker in January. United remains a possible destination for the budding star.
