As reported by the Sun, Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix is reportedly close to signing a contract with Manchester United.
Felix left Benfica to join Atletico Madrid for a reported £110 million transfer fee in 2019. However, he has been unable to gain a good reputation in the Spanish capital.
In 18 appearances this season, he has contributed four goals and three assists. Although the club rejected a €130 million offer from United in the summer, it appears that Atleti are looking to cash in on the deal before the summer transfer window closes. The Portuguese star has an £86 million price tag. But United only have the option to sign him on loan on a £8 million loan deal.
Felix reportedly feels uncomfortable by Diego Simeone’s side and is seeking a fresh challenge, even though his contract doesn’t expire until 2026. United is in talks with the agent of the 23-year-old player, and those talks are progressing well.
After Cristiano Ronaldo left, United wanted to improve their attacking options in January. Even before Ronaldo’s departure, it was anticipated that the Reds would look for a forward this January. Ten Hag’s side has scored only 20 goals in the Premier League this season. Additionally, Felix is rumoured to be a target for Arsenal and Chelsea.
The Blues are reportedly in negotiations for the player as well, but those conversations have yet to catch pace.
According to reports, a decision regarding Joao Felix’s future could be made in the first week of January. Atleti is undoubtedly eager to make a decision as soon as possible so they can then focus on acquiring their own forward for the remainder of the transfer window.
