Espinho striker Betinho has responded to being accidentally named on the Manchester United roster by the Premier League website. Strangely, the Portuguese striker was listed this week on the Red Devils’ official squad list.
In January, United will be searching for a striker. Fans didn’t imagine that Betinho would play for their team, though. On Tuesday, he was well recognised as one of the United players on the Premier League website. The 29-year-old was noted as donning No. 11 for the Old Trafford club and provided his birth date.
Many individuals, including Betinho himself, were shocked by the information. He joked that he felt more famous than ever before while speaking to the Portuguese publication JN.
As reported by The Mirror, Betinho said:
“I only knew it was true when my mates sent me messages, and then I confirmed that it was indeed my name on the Premier League website. I got more calls today than on my birthday.”
United fans need not worry because Betinho presently represents Portuguese club Espinho. The Premier League has acknowledged that the player’s name appeared on their website due to a technical error; it has since been removed.
The striker, who earlier in his career spent a brief time with Brentford, also made light of the situation on Instagram. In a post on his story, he tagged the Portuguese duo Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot as well as the United team.
He also uploaded a photo of himself dressed as though he were wearing a United jersey. But it is probably as close as he will go to representing the English giant. Following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, United is hoping to sign a forward this month. They lost out on Cody Gakpo, who is about to sign a transfer to Liverpool in the next few days.
For the Red Devils, a loan signing is most likely. Following Tuesday’s 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, Ten Hag stated his desire to sign a striker but declined to comment on Gakpo.
