Everton have earmarked Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga as their top target in the January transfer window.
The Telegraph has reported that the Toffees are aiming to sign United’s academy graduate. The 20-year-old is used both as a starter and an off-the-bench option at Old Trafford. This season, he has started five league games and appeared in seven more as a substitute, recording one assist in each outing.
Elanga rose through the ranks at Carrington to earn a spot in the first squad. The report also affirms that the Red Devils won’t approve Elanga’s departure until they sign a competent replacement for the attacker. The Swedish international can contribute when needed, but he is currently not as good as his teammates in his position, like Marcus Rashford.
Elanga could benefit from a loan stint at a Premier League team, where his performances will be closely monitored by the United board.
Ten Hag has requested the board to find an ideal striker in January as the manager wants to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo. The Red Devils have a hectic schedule in the second half of the season and would require heavy rotation of their players.
This also means that the club would think twice before letting Elanga leave, as they could make use of him whenever needed.
