According to Marca, Manchester United and Arsenal are keeping a close eye on Marco Asensio’s development in Spain.
The Spanish player has stated his intention to remain with Los Blancos once his contract expires in June. However, the 27-year-old’s contract discussions have proven to be challenging.
Asensio wants to know his status at the club and prioritises playing regular football over all other options. In Real Madrid’s last six games, he has only made one start as Carlo Ancelotti appears to prefer alternative attackers.
His future in Madrid will be the subject of additional discussions. United and Arsenal will be put on high alert in the meantime, ready to strike should talks fail. Asensio was previously linked with United when Erik ten Hag was looking for a successor for Cristiano Ronaldo earlier this month.
The rumour stated that Real Madrid wouldn’t demand more than €15–20 million to sell the Spanish star to Old Trafford in January.
Furthermore, United would be able to complete a deal during the window since they could pay Asensio’s wage demands, which are estimated to be approximately €6 million annually.
But this was before they acquired Wout Weghorst on loan, who was intended to cover for Ronaldo for a limited period of time. Ten Hag was reportedly looking to make a permanent signing this summer.
However, it remains to be seen whether the club prefers to adjust with their current options or sign a new attacking player this month.
