According to The Daily Star, Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire has turned down an offer to join Inter Milan on loan in order to stay at Old Trafford this season.
The England international has struggled to get regular minutes under boss Erik ten Hag, and ever since the disastrous performance at Brentford, he has frequently been a reserve player.
It seems unlikely that his situation would improve because United will certainly sign another center-back in the summer, but the 29-year-old is prepared to compete for a starting spot right now. The Daily Star claims that Maguire rejected Inter’s offer in favour of United. He is willing to postpone his move until the summer, as he wants to assess his status at Old Trafford.
This season, Maguire is lagging behind Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, and Raphael Varane for a starting position.
It seems doubtful that the £26 million star will start for United frequently, barring an injury to any of those starting XI defenders. He may probably leave if the situation doesn’t change until the end of the season.
In our opinion, Maguire would be best served by moving to Serie A. Compared to the English top flight, the league is less intense and more tactical. Maguire might be a standout in the division.
The English star might be viewed as a direct replacement for Milan Skriniar, who is scheduled to sign a free transfer agreement with Paris Saint-Germain. Victor Lindelof is another player whose future might be evaluated in the summer. The Swedish international recently received a loan offer from Inter.
United made it obvious that they don’t want to lose him at this point in the season, unlike with Maguire.
