Manchester United has officially signed Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer on a temporary loan deal until June 2023.
There is no option to extend Sabitzer’s loan beyond the end of the current campaign. However, as per Fabrizio Romano, the negotiations over the deal are moving towards their advanced stages.
The Austrian midfielder joined Bayern Munich in August 2021 and has made 443 appearances in his career across Europe, including 54 games for the Bavarian giants.
He previously captained RB Leipzig. Sabitzer has 68 caps for Austria’s national side. United have officially announced the signing, and the 28-year-old will be in contention to make his debut against Crystal Palace this weekend.

The loan move comes to light after Christian Eriksen’s long-term injury. After breaking his ankle against Reading last Saturday, the Dane will be out for roughly three months.
The addition of Sabitzer will guarantee that United has a like-for-like replacement for Eriksen, who has been a terrific addition because of his creativity in midfield. The Austrian star put on an outstanding performance at Leipzig. He contributed to a goal on average in every other game, but with Bayern, he has tended to play in the shadows.
In the past 18 months, despite playing over 2000 minutes, he has been unable to secure a starting position. The move to Old Trafford should give him a chance to prove himself.
Sabitzer will undoubtedly start from the number 8 spot. His involvement in the goals would only help United’s pursuit of the top four, making it a win-win situation.
If the loan period goes well, United might decide to bring him on a long-term basis. After Wout Weghorst and Jack Butland, Sabitzer is expected to be United’s third signing of the January transfer window.
