According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries.
Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are the Red Devils’ two primary right-back options, but the latter was said to be on the move in January.
Wan-Bissaka was able to play a number of games due to Dalot’s recent injury problems, keeping him at Old Trafford after the transfer window closed. The English full-back has started seven of United’s nine Premier League games since the World Cup break, but it is still unclear what the future has in store for him.
Dumfries has been mentioned as a potential choice for the Red Devils as they evaluate the possibilities of recruiting a new right-back in the summer. Currently, United are working harder to sign the 26-year-old.
The player’s agents are reportedly interested, and talks with United are progressing well at this moment. Dumfries’s contract with Inter runs through June 2025. He has scored two goals and provided three assists in 25 appearances this season.
Inter has already picked Bayern Munich fullback Noussair Mazraoui as a possible replacement for Dumfries if he does leave the team in the summer.
Mazraoui has dropped down the pecking order at Bayern following the signing of Joao Cancelo. The Bavarians may let Mazraoui leave if the Portuguese make his loan a permanent one.
Inter is rumoured to be waiting for any offers and will not accept anything less than €50 million (£44 million).
