Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes praised Marcus Rashford for being “absolutely magnificent” against Barcelona in the first leg of the Europa League match.
Rashford had a large impact on United’s 2-2 Europa League draw with Barcelona by scoring and contributing significantly to Jules Kounde’s own goal.
Rashford has already matched his career high of 22 goals for United this season, which came during the 2019–20 season.
The English star will aim to continue having a huge effect for United during the remainder of the season as the team seeks to end its trophy drought.
Scholes praises ‘brilliant’ Rashford for coming out on top against a tough Spanish side. As reported by the Daily Mail, he said:
“He is at this point. This season, he’s been absolutely brilliant. You’d like to see it over the next four or five years if he’s going to get to the levels of the really top players in the world. “
“But tonight to come to Barcelona to come to this stadium, great atmosphere. It was a bit wild there, that’s probably one of his better chances, but his all round play, his ability to go past people, his movement, the goal. He’s got the power to do that. His all round game at the moment is nothing short of brilliant.”
The United Academy graduate didn’t have a huge impact in the first half, but he turned into a beast in the second part of the match.

Ten Hag made Weghorst play as a No. 10, which opened space for Rashford to escape the defenders down the flanks and make effective runs in between the channels.
This led to the forward scoring a goal and creating numerous chances for his side. United would want a similar performance by the in-form winger in the second leg.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils will be keeping an eye on the Carabao Cup final, where they will face Newcastle, and will host West Ham in the FA Cup’s fifth round.
Currently, they are six points behind league leaders Manchester City.
