Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reportedly insisted that there won’t be an open-top bus parade even if United wins the Carabao Cup.
The 53-year-old Dutchman will have the chance to break United’s six-year trophy drought when his club plays Newcastle at Wembley today. Even though the event is important, he is not interested in having a parade or other big celebrations if they go well.
The Daily Mail reports that Ten Hag will only consider an open-top bus parade if the Red Devils win two trophies in addition to the Carabao Cup.
After Sunday’s final, the United manager is rumoured to have already informed his staff and players that all attention will instantly shift to Wednesday’s FA Cup match with West Ham.
Ten Hag created a strict schedule at Old Trafford when he took over as United manager last May in an effort to boost performance, so it is not surprising that he is reluctant to celebrate the Carabao Cup.
In case Eddie Howe’s team wins the title, Newcastle has already organised a procession for Tuesday in the city centre. If the Magpies overcome Manchester United at Wembley, they will end a 68-year trophy drought.
The last time they won a major trophy was in 1955. But, given the Red Devils’ remarkable recent run of form, it will be a tough challenge.
Ten Hag’s team defeated Barcelona on Thursday, capping off an amazing comeback, and moving on to the round of 16 of the Europa League. Despite a rocky start to the season, they are currently riding high in the Premier League.
United are still in the running to win the Carabao Cup, the Europa League, the FA Cup, and the Premier League this season.
