According to Foot Mercato, Manchester United is keen to sign Monaco defender Axel Disasi before the summer transfer window opens.
Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have been the typical central defensive pairing for the Red Devils under manager Erik ten Hag.
Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have been the backup choices, but it’s possible that the former will leave this summer. In that case, the team will need to sign an upgrade, and United has already contacted Disasi’s agents.
Ten Hag has his sights on a reliable centre-back who excels in one-on-one chances. The former Reims player may cost roughly €50 million, but the team hasn’t made any sort of contact with Monaco about him.
Currently, Disasi ranks among the best central defenders in French football. This season, he has played well for Monaco in Ligue 1. The 25-year-old has made one tackle, three clearances, 1.6 interceptions, and has an 84% passing accuracy. He’s won 71 per cent of his aerial duels.
Disasi possesses the physical qualities and aerial presence necessary to compete in the Premier League, but the club would rather sign someone else.
Even if Maguire departs, Lindelof will be a capable replacement for Varan. Instead, United should concentrate on improving the left centre-back position. In our opinion, the team ought to look for a different left-footed central defender to rival Martinez.
RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol might cost over €100 million but he would be an ideal signing. Sporting’s Goncalo Inacio would be another wise and less expensive signing.
The Portuguese player, who was outstanding in both halves of the Europa League round of 16 matches against Arsenal, might be available for about €35 million.
